3 Ways to Deal with a Bad Hangover

Hangovers are nature’s way of telling us that we’ve made a bad decision. Ideally, you shouldn’t drink to the point where you’ll have a hangover, but it’s difficult to keep track of what you’re drinking when you’re having fun. Hangovers are not incurable, however. As a matter of fact, they can be treated pretty easily. All you need is some patience and an understanding of why hangovers happen in the first place. Here’s how to deal with a bad hangover.

Drink Plenty of Water

Alcohol is a well-known diuretic. That’s why you have to go to the bathroom so often during a night of drinking. This will eventually lead to your body being dehydrated. Dehydration is said to be one of the major causes of hangover symptoms, so you will have to start rehydrating yourself the minute you wake up.

The simplest way to rehydrate yourself is to drink some fresh water. You could also drink Pedialyte or sports drinks as these accelerate hydration, but it’s not always necessary. What you could do, however, is consume a meal that is high in water first thing in the morning, like soup, for instance. Eating high water foods will hydrate you but they also help you replenish some of the nutrients you’ve lost while drinking.

Restore Nutrient Levels

As you may or may not know, heavy alcohol consumption will strip your body from all sorts of essential nutrients. Some of these nutrients include zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C, D, and K. This is why we would suggest that you either take a multivitamin in the morning or eat highly nutritious meals throughout the day. They should consist mainly of vegetables and protein with some carbs but be low in fat as this can affect your digestive system.

Eating carbs early in the morning will be very important as alcohol induces a significant drop in blood sugar which could contribute to hangover symptoms. Start the morning with simple carbs like white toast with honey or even a bowl of sugary cereal. You can then switch to complex carbs to keep that blood sugar steady throughout the day.

Get an IV Treatment

If you have the money for it and you want a fast and efficient cure for hangovers, then you could always go for IV therapy. You can get one in pretty much every city in the country, but this type of therapy is much more common on the west coast. If you live somewhere like San Diego, you could easily find IV therapy in San Diego. It will not only replenish the fluids you’ve lost but will also provide things such as electrolytes and anti-inflammatories to ease the pain. You’ll feel much more energized at the end of the treatment too.

These are all ways that you can cope with and help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with hangovers. Focus on taking care of yourself and getting some rest if you want to bounce back quickly.
